现代脑科学专家研究发现，人的大脑中有一个专门负责学语言的区域，即布罗卡区，人们的母语就存储在这一区域。布罗卡区在人2、3岁时开始发育到10——12岁发育成熟。此后，随着年龄的增长，布罗卡区的灵敏性呈下降趋势。
这一发现告诉我们，一个人要想学好语言，尤其是外语，应该充分把握布罗卡区发育的最佳时机。作为小学生，开发和利用大脑资源，在这一阶段学好英语，尤其是英语语音有着十分重要的意义。正如成语“雪中送炭”一样，因为当事人抓住了时机。故受到人们的尊重，而“雨后送伞”的当事人由于没有把握好时机故落得出力不讨好。孩子学习英语也是如此，必须把握好时机，即抓住10——12岁之前的时机。
著名英语教授吉姆森说“说任何语言一个人必须懂得百分之百的语音，而只懂得百分之五十的语法和百分之一的词汇就足够了”。可见，学好语音极其重要。英语语音有三要素——发音、节奏和语调。作为小学生，学好发音就要学习因素和音标。要学到纯正的发音同学们不妨认真模仿一下国际音标的磁带。至于选择英音好还是美音好，笔者建议初学者还是学英音。因为英语语音比较易学，且我国的英语教材一般以英音为标准，学习环境也以英音居多。在起步阶段听磁带时也应尽量选择英音。在扎实的英音基础上，听懂美音也不会太难。
对于字母FfLlMmNnSsXx在单词的读音，不妨使用“掐头法”来
学习。如F/ef/可以去掉/e/只读后面的/f/。对于字母BbCcDdJjKk
PpTtVvZz在单词中的发音，可以使用“去尾法”来学。如：字母Bb/bi:/
去掉/i:/，余下的/b/即为字母在单词中的读音了。对于GgHhYyWwRr
在单词中的读音，可以和汉语拼音区别、对比来学习。对于元音字母的学习学生领会发音的要领，便能掌握好它们。针对a,e,i,o,u在单词中的读音，要让学生既记住名称音，也要记住短音。同时，要理解开音节、闭音节的含义。至
于可以先发/s/,/z/，再把舌尖平放在上下齿之间即发出了音。
对于/tr/,/dr/,/ts/,/dz/等，小学阶段不作重点要求。训练发音不能仅靠机械记忆。

一、Greetings问候
我们中国人见面打招呼时习惯说：您吃过了吗?(Have you eaten? / Have you had your meal?)或者说：您上哪去?(Where are you going? )。而英美人见面时如果是上午则说：Good morning. 如果是在下午则说：Good afternoon, 在傍晚就说：Good evening. 如果与熟人打招呼则说：How are you? 如果是与较熟的人或朋友打招呼则说：Hello, 或Hi. 如果用我们中国人见面打招呼时常说的"Have you eaten?"去问候英美人，就会引起对方的误解，因为"Have you eaten?"在英语里不是打招呼用语，而是"邀请对方去吃饭"。如果见到英美人时说："Where are you going?"他们会很不高兴。因为"Where are you going?"对英美人来说则是"即干涉别人的私事。"
